Botanical Name: Cinnamomum zeylanicum

Main Constituents:
Eugenol: 70-85%

Plant Part: Leaves

Origin: Sri Lanka

Processing Method: Steam Distilled

Description / Color / Consistency: A brownish yellow to dark liquid with a medium consistency.

Aromatic Summary / Note / Strength of Aroma: A middle note of medium aroma, it has a warm, spicy scent between that of clove and cinnamon, but with herbaceous notes that are not sweet. Customers seeking the smell of the cinnamon spice should purchase Cinnamon Bark.

Blends With: Clove Bud, Lavender, Cedarwood, Orange, Lemon, Neroli, Ylang-ylang, Rosemary and Thyme.

Product Abstract: Cinnamomum verum originates from Sri Lanka. It is a tropical evergreen tree of the laurel family growing up to 15 m (45 feet) in the wild. The tree has a very thin smooth bark, with a light yellowish brown color and a highly fragrant odor. Its pleasant scent has lead it to be a perfect addition to creams, lotions and soaps.

Cautions: Dilute well before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes and mucous membranes should be avoided. This has phototoxic properties and exposure to the sun must be avoided after application to the skin.

Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

I just got a small bottle of this because some people got such a funny smell off it. It doesn’t smell bad at all to me, but not a lot like cinnamon. Smells more like cloves to me. I will use it in some blends and see how it goes!

Not as strong , sharp cinnamon as cassia EO so this makes for a very nice cinnamon scent. I usally use it in a blend as by itself it would probably be too much cinnamon. Holds well in CP.

Cinnamon definitely. Not super spicy, more of a sweet, calm cinnamon. I think I would try the cinnamon bark for a good, strong, spicy cinnamon.

Hard to rate this one because the product is excellent and it deserves 5 stars. the reason for the 4 star rating is because I guess I don't like the over powering scent of cinnamon very much. More than a drop or two I find it very cloying and sticks in my throat and nose. That is not the fault of NDA. This is a great product and I indeed to like it better than other brands I have purchased in the past. If you like cinnamon, I highly recommend this product, but use it very sparingly when scenting a room through a diffuser or potpourri (does anyone still have that dust catcher in their homes?) and so on.

Normally I love cinnamon, but I don't care for this one. It has a cinnamon-like aroma, but has a funny sickly sweet quality to it that smells off to me. I was more looking for sharp cinnamon. ND used to carry a CO2 Cinnamon bark and I think that's what I want. If you want sweet cinnamon spice, I recommend ND's Cassia, which has a cleanly sweet cinnamon aroma.

Smells like a greener, earthy cinnamon. It stands out in blends. Even once I mixed cinnamon bark in it, the green tones in this one still stood out. I suggest cinnamon bark eo for a true cinnamon smell.

I ummed and aahed about whether to get the bark or the leaf and went for the leaf. Glad I did, love the warmth without the smack in the face that the bark e.o can have. I grow cinnamon and this is so close to fresh bark from the tree! Not herbaceous like the leaves at all. Very interesting. Great in cp soaps and in lotions.

Love, love, love! I used this at 2%, and it's lovely cinnamon/clove scent - exactly what I was expecting and hoping for given the product description. It's not sharp, but rather a nice warm, spicy scent.

I agree with the other comments. Not really a true cinnamon scent, however, big difference in price compared to cinnamon bark. So I guess I will settle for this and just experiment with various blends for CP soaps.

I love this scent, I like it better than its sweeter friend Cinnamon bark (which is more like a candy heart scent). I will use it when I want a more serious and complex spicy cinnamon, very good.

I am not happy with the scent of this oil. It has an underlying decaying plant material scent. I had purchased cinnamon leaf oil from a different company and felt secure that the one you offered would be the same. It smelled just like cinnamon. I see your note as to purchase cinnamon bark if that is the scent I am looking for, so I will try that instead.

Just to reiterate other comments: This is definitely NOT your kitchen cinnamon fragrance. I used it in my cold process soap, as a single fragrance. The result is very different from my batch using cinnamon bark essential oil. Personally, I don\'t care for it. It is a very strong aroma, so experiment a bit with amount used.

I am sorry to say I do not like this scent, I find it has too much of a medical smell(with just a hint of cinnamon) But again that is my personal taste.

New Directions Aromatics Response:

Please note that Cinnamon Leaf will NOT have the traditional scent that everyone associates with Cinnamon, if you are seeking that type of scent please try our Cinnamon Bark instead.

I use this oil in cold process soap, lovely, you do not need a lof of EO and the scent is so powerfull! but if you use it for cp soap, work fast! They soap will heat so do not cover your soap :)

I love this oil for a variety of reasons, one being it is safer than the cinnamon bark oil and its use in sensual blends...really adds a spicy warm feel. It can also be used for anorexia, anti fungal, stimulating childbirth contractions, chills, colds, debility, fear, frigidity, gum care, induces menstruation, infection, isolation, lice, loneliness, poor circulation, rheumatism, scanty periods, stress, warts, wasp stings. Also known as Ceylon Cinnamon, Cinnamomum verum, Laurus cinnamomum, Madagascar Cinnamon, Seychelles Cinnamon, True Cinnamon. this one is highly recommeded for quality and price.
