Product Abstract: Clove Bud Essential Oil is derived from the slender evergreen that grows up to 12 meters in height (approximately 36 feet). At the start of the rainy season, long buds appear that change color over time and are beaten from the trees and dried. These are the cloves sold that are sold commercially. The word 'clove' comes from the Latin word clavus, meaning nail, because the shaft and head of the clove bud resembled an ancient nail. Cloves were among the most precious of spices of Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries, and were worth more than their weight in gold. They continue to be used in Ayurvedic medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, western herbalism, and in dentistry.
Cautions: Dilute well before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.

Rating: Oh my god! That oil is quite strong! I'm using it in my moutwash recipe and it just burn for several minutes. But it is very good effect & very effective... it is also very good in home cleaning products.

Rating: Felt that this last order of all the oils in my order were off and possibly defective, all had a medicinal smell and nothing like their name. Even though I suspect batches were defective company still made me pay for the return courier of $32.00
Rating: Definitely clove. Strong, good in creams, hold its scent well in CP soap.

Rating: A little goes a long way with this one. Definitely smokey, woody scent. I tried to mix it with lavender and geranium and I ended up with a fantastic fragrance. Next time I would like to try the one from India they sell here, just to see what the difference is between them.
Rating: I have used this oil for years as a First Aid oil to have around the house. Really It is a multi purpose versatile oil to have handy. I just love this oil!

Rating: Yes this absolutely accelerates, but so do most "hot" oils, so you have to work fast and be right on the ball when using this EO. ALSO.... it's worth noting that there is a certain percentage where Clove Oil is non irritating...and the regular "TBS PPO" in CP is definitely too high.... SO, there's that. I usually mix this with other scents, though so the amount is minuscule...
But if I'm planning on colours, or designs or swirls - I wait until JUST before pouring before adding the Clove Oil.... Super accelerates. Most of the time I can not swirl when I add this, I can only colour the soap a nice colour - then pour into the mold, then its already setting up.

Rating: I think this is very smoky out of the bottle, and a little harsh even, but in a blend it adds a lovely warm, mellow, slightly husky undertone. Popular in my CP soaps. Will be one of my regulars.

Rating: Must be very careful with this EO. Accelerated trace in CP soaps very quickly, and I don't think the scent on it's own is attractive at all. Had to add either, Cinnamon Bud or Blood Orange to give it depth.

Rating: A popular must have. I have bottles of it throughout the house. It is a great first aid item to have handy. Great for deodorizing rooms during winter flu season.

Rating: I don't understand the positive reviews for this. I expected something somewhat different, but was also going with the "smells spicy like actual cloves". Sadly, my bottle smells like smoke! LIke...dirty campfire! This is the most disappointing oil I've purchased from ND :( I've gone ahead and tried using it in a oil blend as I'm hoping it still holds the same therapeutic properties, but I fear my customers might be put off (ie. revolted!) by the smell. Anyone else?

Rating: Smell is strong and a true clove bud scent!
By:Madison, Hamilton, Ontario Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 11-Mar-2012
Rating: I was really disappointed with this clove essentail oil. It does not have a clove scent. I purchased 500 ml and feel like I wasted my money. Other items I have purchased from New Directions have been good, but the clove oil was a big disappointment.

Rating: Think twice before buying lot # 11038-B18 of this clove bud oil. It does not smell anything like previous batches of clove bud oil from New Directions. Quite discouraged that New Directions would consider selling it with the description of the smell, "Clove Bud Essential Oil smells spicy and rich like actual cloves." as even the customer service rep was able to only say that it has a mild scent of cloves.

Rating: This clove oil smells amazing. A little goes a long way in my candles but I will definitely be purchasing this again!

Rating: Such a great EO, a couple of drops goes a long way, but can be overpowering. Still love it despite how strong it can be.
Rating: This Clove Bud is quite tender, no sharpness to it, unlike the Clove leaf. I combine the two oils to produce the strength & power for one of my top de-stressing products. Awesome! Also for hair products it is superb.

Rating: I added a few drops of clove and lavender to avocado oil and massaged onto deep bruises after my sport activity; it soothed the area and the bruise diminished sooner (my sport leaves me with lots of bruises so I consider myself a 'bruise expert'). Bonus... a really nice aroma.
Rating: I really love this essential oil. I used it for the first time recently and will buy some more. It blends so well with other oils. The smell reminds me carnations.
Cette huile a une odeur d'oeillet... elle se mélange harmonieusement avec des huiles même florales.

Rating: I bought a sample and of course will buy a bigger size. This oil smells so good and I feel that it has a calming effect. I really like it. Super.
J'ai acheté un échantillon et je suis convaincue. Cette huile a une odeur de "clou" proche de celle de l'oeillet - ce qui n'est pas pour déplaire - Je vais acheter un plus gros format !
