b-Himachalene: 29-52%

Plant Part: Wood

Origin: Morocco

Processing Method: Steam Distilled

Description / Color / Consistency: A thin, golden yellow to orange or brown liquid.

Aromatic Summary / Note / Strength of Aroma: A middle note of strong aroma, Cedarwood Atlas Oil has a woody, sweet, scent that is sharper than Virginian Cedarwood, and slightly reminiscent of mothballs.

Product Abstract: Cedarwood is a pyramid-shaped majestic evergreen tree, which grows up to 131 ft. high. The wood itself is hard and strongly aromatic because of the essential oil it contains, which is obtained by steam distillation. Originating in the Atlas Mountains in North Africa, linen chests were frequently crafted from Cedar. The ancient Egyptians prized the oil, mostly for embalming purposes, but also for cosmetics and perfumery, and Solomon's Temple was built with Cedar Wood. Today, closet liners and accessories are frequently crafted from Cedar, and the oil is currently used in commercial soaps, cosmetics and perfumes, especially men's colognes.

Note: Our Cedarwood Atlas essential oil is from a sustainable source.

Cautions: Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.

Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

This is an amazing cedar smell… I’ve tried a few now from new directions and this one is by far my favourite. Earthy undertones, just love it!

Amazing cedar smell, it pins my favourite note in all “woodsy” smells and I can tell it will be a staple in my blends.

This oil is wonderful period it reminds me of walking through a forest on Vancouver island. This will be going in my hair products, and I'll definitely be diffusing it at home as well. My next order will be the 100 ml bottle of this one.

A strong yet softly nuanced cedar wood oil. I have tried many varieties, but this is my favorite. It adds a wonderful, lasting base note to CP soap, and blends beautifully with other oils.

This Cedarwood has an off smell, like cat pee. Still very grounding and would be great for blending with others simp,y to still receive the therapeutic effects. Won't buy again, Prefer Virginian over this one, it's far woodier and "real".

I find this oil to be very soothing for my two kids when they are sick. One is 4 and the other 10 months old. I put a few drops in a diffuser along with some lavender and it calms them down and allows them to sleep more peacefully. Also it's great for babies over 6 months as a chest rub mixed with a carrier oil. It provides the same benifits as eucalyptus. Considering eucalyptus shouldn't be used on kids under 10 years of age.

I love, love LOVE this cedar! I am not normally a fan of woods and resins. I compared it to the the Texas Cedarwood, which was also nice (like a hope chest), but this one is so mild and slightly spicy. Not at all resinous. Delightful base note - I have mixed with citrus and spices (cinnamon, clove), with beautiful results!

There is something off to the smell of this for me personally, it is almost floral? Almost a sweet must, not at all musky or woodsy. I will have to compare the components, but I prefer the Virginia Cedar wood to this a hundred fold. I do believe the price has dropped also, which is fair considering the reviews and the other fantastic cedarwood oils ND offers

I really cannot like this scent. It smells too much like artificial mothball. A bit too much for me. It's strong and sharp, almost bitter and unpleasant. For some reason I was expecting a sweet woody scent in this one. Next time I'm going to try Himalayan or Virginian cedar wood.

I find this scent very unpleasant but that's just me. It does smell a lot like mothball. For some reason it smells very artificial, but that could be because it smells like mothballs. Definitely not a wood scent that I was looking for. Like an NDA rep said, I will try Virginian or Himalayan. Meanwhile, I will try to mix this with other essential oils to cover the scent.

(I did not actually purchase this oil, so I rated it the same as the average score so as to not throw off the current rating) This is in response to Chaina from Toronto: I used to be a student in Forestry Department at the University of British Columbia. When people are referring to the traditional cedar smell it is pertaining to Western Redcedar or Yellow Cedar or Eastern White Cedar etc. However, all of these are false cedars and no one really knows how they came to be known as cedars. These trees come from the family Cuprressaceae. Atlas Cedar, however, is a true cedar and comes from the family Pinaceae. It can be kind of confusing since they have the same sort of common name even thought they are not related. As such, it will have a different smell than you expect because they come from two different families...unless you already knew this fact.

Actually, according to me, it doesn\'t smell like cedar at all, it\'s something sweet and very mild. Not the one I was looking for as it\'s definitely not the classic cedar scent.

New Directions Aromatics Response:

To get the more traditional woody scent of Cedarwood try the Texas or Virginian Cedarwood with the chemical constituents of Cedrene or Cedrol.

I love this cedarwood, great price, high quality oil! It is a possible ABORTIFACIENT. Do not use if pregnant. Similar to Himalayan Deodar Cedarwood. Use for absent mindedness, acne, anxiety, arthritis, bronchitis, catarrh, cellulite, confidence building, cystitis, dandruff, dermatitis, eczema, fungal infections, greasy skin, hair loss, rheumatism, skin eruptions, stress, ulcers. Also known as African Cedar, Atlantic Cedar, Atlas Cedar, Libanol Oil, Moroccan Cedarwood Oil. I use this oil in many of my blends. An asset to any aromatherapist.
