a-pinene: 40%

Plant Part: Resin

Origin: United Arab Emirates

Processing Method: Steam Distilled

Description / Color / Consistency: A thin, clear, pale yellow to brown liquid.

Aromatic Summary / Note / Strength of Aroma: A base note with a medium aroma, this Frankincense Essential Oil has a warm and spicy, smokey and woody aroma.

Blends With: Basil, Bergamot, Cardamom, Cedarwood, Chamomile, Cinnamon Bark, Clary Sage, Coriander, Geranium, Myrrh and Vanilla.

Product Abstract: Frankincense originates from a small scraggly but hardy tree indigenous to the Middle East, which is small with abundant pinnacle leaves and white or pale pink flowers. The resin begins as a fragrant sticky milky-white liquid that flows from the trunk of the tree when cut. The dried tears are collected, and the resin is then distilled, producing the precious oil. The resin is known as olibanum, derived from the Arabic al-luban or 'that which results from milking', referring to the milky sap. It is used as incense, and has been traded for 5,000 years. Widely used in ancient Egypt, it was one of the ingredients used in the holy oil described in the Talmud. Frankincense was brought back to Europe by Frankish Crusaders (Frank-incense), and the oil is still highly prized today in the perfumery industry, and widely used in the manufacturing of skin-care products.

Cautions: Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.

Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

I’ve used a lot of different brands of frankincense and found this to be my favourite so far. It has a wonderful complex scent that blends well with others. High quality as with all ND essential oils.

I've been purchasing this oil for a while now. I absolutely love it. My skin is better for it using this oil. I love the smell and always add it to my face lotion or serum. This oil is gold to me. Always have Frankincense Carterii on hand. Five stars easy.

It is a great addition to any EO arsenal! I am generally pleased with this New Directions Aromatics offering of Frankincense Carterii. I use this mainly for skin care blends with different carrier oils.

I was worried about purchasing this product as I am concerned it will smell like the ones used in some churches which I didn't like. Well, this product did not disappoint. The scent is not too strong. I can actually stand it. I did the skin test as well as am hoping to reap its supposedly good benefit in healing problem skin. So far so good, the skin I had some on is responding well.

Unsure of the quality. Does not smell like frankincense that I have purchased from another brand. Also does not smell like the odour of burning frankincense granules. The smell seems off, like some kind of chemical solvent smell, gasoline-isa. Have been using it on my face and not sure it does anything. Mostly likely will not buy again.

We absolutely would recommend this product for someone to invest in oils. The oils require a small amount for deep impact.

I love this Frankincense. It has a comforting earthiness to it on its own and it blends so beautifully with just about anything. It's a great price point, too!

I don't like this at all. To me it feels like a lower quality oil and it I swear it's also making me break out. The reason I purchased this expensive oil was to use in skin care serums for healing scars and acne and honestly me and my clients find it is causing more acne than it is healing. This should not be characteristic of frankincense oil so my best guess is that the quality is bad. Not impressed and will not be ordering again. This was not cheap and my money is better spent on better quality oils. This oil is causing breakouts and I have to toss it out. Waste of money.

really loved this Frankincense, I'm using it for my cancer, I rub a little on my tumors. I have tried other brands of this oil and I think this is the best (my opinion) for me. Cost wise and size, this works well for us. Its also uplifting and yet kind of grounding to diffuse on its own, or I like to add orange oil (for an uplifting scent) and lavender (for a night time or grounding scent). I use it on my young kids and toddlers too.

I don't love the intense opening pine scent and lingering herbal/green note ... but I might be getting this because I overdosed in my enthusiasm to understand the differences between this Frankincense, the Egyptian version, and the Indian. A little goes a long way! Although the opening green note (reminiscent of crushed Western red cedar leaves) (i.e. juniper-type, Texas or Virginia "cedar" leaves) lasts longer for me than comfortable, the slow drydown after that is complex, multilayered, and gorgeous, ending up with warm smooth woody notes. I do think the scent lasts longer (with more intensity and complexity) than either of the other frankincenses I've tried from NewDirections. This one will be worth every penny to a dedicated perfumer or frankicense freak. Personally I prefer the Egyptian for its more delicate blended frankincense aroma from start to finish.

I ordered three kinds from NDA. The others (Egyptian 'carteri' and Indian 'serrata'). This one beats them both. In the 1980s a friend in Port Townsend, Washington introduced me to the lemony fragrance of Darfur granules of gold. This is it (even if it is from UAE). You can get an Omani incensor and Dutch charcoal and burn the desert tears. Or buy this oil. An old friend, the comforter. A clear day without the heat.

Very nice. A deeper smell than other frankincense I've smelled. It almost smells like wood shavings, but from wood with a bit of green in it.

Fantastic oil. My favorite Frankincense so far! Medium to strong aroma, stronger than other Frankincense oils. Does not last as long as I'd like in a nebulizer but, again, way better than many others!
