Botanical Name: Calophyllum Inophyllum

Extraction Method: Cold Pressed

Processing Type: Unrefined

Description: This variety of Tamanu Oil originates from Madagascar, although it can also be found in South East Asia. The fruit (seeds) are hand gathered from the coastal Tamanu trees, as they are said to yield the highest quality oil. It grows up to three meters tall, sporting cracked, black bark and elliptical, shiny leaves. The Tamanu tree blooms twice annually with fragrant, white flowers, which later yield clusters of yellow-skinned spherical fruit.

Color: Dark green to a brown viscous liquid.

Aromatic Description: Tamanu Virgin Madagascar Carrier Oil has a rich, woody-spicy oil scent.

Common Uses: Tamanu Virgin Carrier Oil is reputed to have wondrous skin-benefiting properties. Tamanu oil can be used in skin care products as it is composed of phospholipids and glycolipids, which are known to help protect the skin’s moisture barrier and are natural constituents of healthy-looking skin. It is a powerful soothing oil for topical use. It can be applied neat to the skin or blended with other carrier oils. This oil revitalizes and improves the texture of the skin, giving it a fresh look.

Consistency: Solid at room temperature. The product should be heated in a warm water bath in order to liquefy.

Absorption: Absorbs into skin at average speed, slight oil feeling left on the skin.

Shelf Life: Users can expect a shelf life of up to 2 years with proper storage conditions (cool, out of direct sunlight). Refrigeration after opening is recommended. Please refer to the Certificate of Analysis for the current Best Before Date.

Cautions: Persons with nut allergies should not use this oil.

Storage: It is recommended that cold-pressed carrier oils be kept in a cool, dark place to maintain freshness and achieve maximum shelf life. If refrigerated, bring to room temperature before using.

I do appreciate this Tamanu Carrier Oil (Madagascar). However, as I got to the last third of the bottle, I found that it is so thick that it is not pourable. I suggest shaking the jar before every use. I was able to stir it with a bamboo skewer, but it is pretty thick. I am adding it to my moisturizer now, hope it works okay.

With its high emollience and phytonutrient profile, Tamanu oil is an intensely soothing option for my sensitive, acne-prone skin. A great investment for such a beautiful, nourishing oil. Thanks NDA!

I am slowly purchasing the oils on NDA’s list that are new to me. I had never heard of this oil before so I went with the small bottle and all I can say is wow! I put this on irritated skin and no joke within minutes the itchy irritated feeling was gone and my skin looked better. This should be in everybody’s first aid Kit or cabinet. I haven’t tried it on my face yet but so far thumbs up. It’s thick and has a slight grainy feeling. I’m not sure if it will be less viscous as the months get warmer. It has a distinctive smell but not too strong. Honestly the price for the small bottle Worth trying it out. I definitely plan it again.

My love with this oil was not instantaneous- it did smell a little ...funny..to me at first. BUT, then I found out what a miracle worker it is! I have used it neat on acne to help clear it up almost overnight as well as on really irritated skin but it also goes into my daily facial oils, my lotions and butters for sensitive skin, into burn/wound salves, etc, etc! The possibilities do seem endless for this oil! And now, I LOVE the smell - nutty, a little woodsy- and honestly, I put it on sometimes just for the comfort of the aroma. I've been using it for at least 2 years now and I won't ever stop!

I am in love with this oil! It definitely has a stronger scent than I was not expecting, and I would describe it more as spicy than woodsy or nutty. But I learned to love the smell after a day or two. It works so well on my surgical scars - I mixed with a bit of vitamin E oil, lavender, and helichrysum and the difference after just a couple weeks is huge. It has softened the skin that was pulling/puckering at the end of the incisions and lightened the redness of the scars. I only wish I had started using it sooner!

This is a highly healing and therapeutic oil that I recommend for applications where healing of the skin is required. I did find it a heavy and green tinged oil. Be careful not to stain anything when blending. the smell is also quite strong so use with Essential Oils to mask the smell if you're not into it when you open the bottle and take a whiff.

All I have to say about this oil, is how did I live without it for so long!!! The smell is strong and takes some getting used to, but the skin benefits definitely outweigh the strong scent. The changes that I have seen in my own skin and scar repair has been nothing short of miraculous, very happy with this purchase and will definitely be purchasing more!!!

I am very glad that I decided to try this oil. I'm not a big fan of the smell, although I am definitely getting more used to it. To get around this, I pre-mix it with argan and rosehip (but keeping the proportion of tamanu smaller than the other two). This way, I can use the mixture during the day and not worry about the smell following me around. At night, I use the same mixture all over my face again but may apply an extra drop of tamanu to any problem areas. Works great!

Oh Tamanu oil....what can I say? I purchased this oil thinking it would be like the oil I get at my organic facial spa. I'm obsessed with the smell! With excitement and glee, I was bouncing around my office when my package arrived. Opened everything else and saved the tamanu oil for last. In blissful anticipation, I twisted the cap and took a whiff. Paused...whiffed....paused....definitely not like the one I get....whiffed..paused...burst out laughing. To me, this tamanu oil smells like teriyaki beef jerky. Before I start experimenting with adding essential oils, I plan on lathering this tamanu on my belly stretch marks and going to the nearest dog park to test my theory. Maybe I'll find my future husband who will fall in love with me in awe as I am the dog park piper with many dogs following in my wake. Or ... I could dab some on my neck and go to a bar. Men love beef jerky! Tamanu oil, I love you. Ps: it's very nourishing, healing, and protective. Would recommend it for severly dry skin, eczema, or psoriasis.

I got a serious burn, and I made healing balm with this oil and added lavender EO. It's green and bit thick oil which makes me believe its healing power. So far it works great.

Beautiful nutty smell similar to Macadamia but not sure yet if it works for the skin. Still as far as carrier oils go, I will continue to use this.

I wrote the review dated 6/20/2013, and I came back to add some more information. After repeated use, I no longer seem to have an allergic reaction to this oil. Also, I recently tried tamanu from another supplier as it was considerably less expensive. BIG MISTAKE. The other tamanu, though organic, was from Vietnam and wasn't nearly as potent as the stuff NDA sells. This is the BEST tamanu! A little pricey, but it a little goes a long way. Highly recommend. I also use this to cure my dog's persistent ear infections with great results. A++++!

I love this oil! But just like the previous reviewer, I think I'm allergic to it too. I used it in a facial serum and I broke out in hives! But the same formula cleared up my son's acne!

I give this oil 5 stars, it is absolutely amazing. It has all but completely healed a dry, flakey scaly rash I have been dealing with for years. The only downside (for me, anyway) is I think I'm allergic to it - break out in hives when I use it. So far the benefits outweigh the allergy, however. I will be trying it diluted soon.

I LOVE THIS STUFF! and I will not go without it now. I never heard of it before, until I read about it on your site and I took a chance and ordered it based on the description (which I feel is very accurate). This oil is a powerful healer indeed. It is not greasy. It is a dry oil for sure; leaving my normally oily skin, very soft, smooth, uninflamed and not at all oil, but wonderfully moisturized. I only use this oil in the evening. The reaon being is I am not really fond of the kind of curry leaf scent to it. Although, I got used to the smell after a couple of applications and it does not bother me. It is not an offensive smell either. I do like the idea of adding sandalwood to it, but I wanted to test the oil out at 100 percent purity, at first. In 4 weeks of using Tamanu, I have healed existing pimples, stopped new pimples from developing, cured an ingrown hair that was developing into a boil (in a few days), smoothed fine lines and wrinkles, faded red mark and age spots, cured an earache(was so painful and after 5 minutes of just a swipe of tamanu in the ears, pain was gone), I cured a cut in one week with no scar left (and normally, I should have a scar from that kind of cut). I imagine if I used this oil more than once a day, I would have only better results even. Even my teeenage son is appreciating the benefits on his acne prone skin and we are both hooked! I have heard that the Polynesians use Tamanu as a bug repellant even. I will be happy to slather this oil all over myself and the kids while we're camping just to see if it works!

I hate having to conserve this oil due to the price because my skin loves it so much. It has a lovely earthy smell, thick texture and is gods gift to skin healing. I usually mix it with some borage to thin it out slightly

I have been using this Tamanu on my face for 2 months steady now. It has not only erased new scars but has begun to fade very old scars. Tamanu has a bit of a strong odor so I'll mix in a drop of Sandalwood before I apply to my skin. Fabulous stuff!

I stayed away with essential oil with this recipe as I want to the oil stand out by itself!I will definitely make a special product line using this oil!
