Product Rating: 4.6/5 (As per 29 Customer Reviews)
Native to Central and South America, Ucuuba Butter is a natural butter cold pressed from the seeds of the Ucuuba tree. The resulting butter is brown to yellow in color, and soft but dry in consistency.
Common Uses: Ucuuba Butter is exceptionally rich in essential fatty acids and can be used to replenish, tone, and moisturize dry and mature skin. Ucuuba Butter is ideal for making pomades, creams, lotions, body butters, and other skin-care formulations. Due to its dark brown color, this butter can be used to produce dark, richly colored soaps, and it is sometimes used in candles made with vegetable-based waxes.
When adding butters to creams and lotions, it might be necessary to gently warm them until the texture can be incorporated into the final product. Using a hand blender, create a vortex with your cream or lotion and drizzle your melted butter to fully incorporate. For addition in soaps, the general rule of thumb is 1 tablespoon per pound. As with most raw materials, results may vary, so we strongly recommend small, lab scale batches prior to any commercial manufacturing.
Shelf Life: This butter should be stored in a cool dark place and has a shelf-life of 1 year when stored properly.

Rating: I love this butter! Even the smell :) to me it’s kinda vanilla-ish. it’s easily masked with patchouli and sandalwood even amber. I also added a drop of cinnamon. Beautiful texture and soaks in fast. I blended mine with sal/shorea butter I already had, added some essential oils - in love!
Keeps you moisturizer and velvety.

Rating: Ucuuba butter is a butter I cannot live without! It's the only butter (mix with Neem Oil & Perilla Oil) that helps to alleviate my sensitive and irritated skin. I don't mind the strong, earthly scent as the benefits far outweigh the scent. Plus you can mask the scent with Essential Oils and other plant butters. Thanks NDA for an amazing botanical butter!

Rating: I use this butter for a Calendula balm and it is fantastic. Yes it may have a funky smell, but my secret is adding in a dollop of Benzoin and the smell is literally is undetectable. Don't let the smell put you off the wonderful properties of this butter. Its fantastic for dry skin conditions of any type. I even have acne prone customers using our balm as an oil cleanser with magnificent result.

Rating: Bought this to make a natural body butter for my 3 year old son to aid in the care of his skin. He has severe eczema. So far I am seeing very positive results. I am amazed. Blended it with a few other butters and scented it. I am very pleased with the results.
Rating: The smell is definitely funky. If you leave the lid off the container, it does mellow out...likewise if you just take out a chunk to air before melting it down. The texture is waxy like beeswax. I used it 20% in a blend with avocado butter 60% and sweet almond oil 20%. I added in 2 drops Roman chamomile and about 1% cedar (atlas or himalayan). The cedar and chamomile masked the ucuuba scent, and the cream has worked wonders for my son's eczema. 5* for function, 3* for smell... 4.5 overall

Rating: It's difficult for me to rate this butter. On one hand - the smell is revolting to me. It reminds me of compost and black soil. But it's properties are wonderful. I've tried masking the scent, but it always wins over. There is only so much fragrance/eos can cover before it becomes irritating to the skin. Sadly, I cannot use it for myself or my family, since none of us can handle the smell. If only it were refined...

Rating: Funky for sure, a bit of a smoky smell...can't wait to try this butter. Wish you would still offer the smaller containers. Since I prepare cosmetics only for myself they were a great way for me to experiment with different butters.
Rating: Ucuuba butter truly works for my problem-prone, sensitive, dry skin. It has a funky, earthly smell howeve the benefits far outweigh the smell. I usually hand-make a Chamomile Neem O/W Butter for my skin. I even made a Oil Treatment Serum for the scalp with Ucuuba, Neem Oil, and Perilla Seed Oil. I gift the cream and serum to friends with acne, eczema, psoriasis and other skin issues and they are loving the products and raving about the consistent healing results. Thanks ND for bringing such a diverse choice in butters. Keep it coming!

Rating: I've been suffering from contact dermatitis for 6 months. I've tried everything from really strong prescribed cortesoid creams to various natural formulations. I made this with the Shea butter Burkina Faso, Meadowfoam oil and some Helichrysum EO. My flare ups have decreased and my skin is getting better!

Rating: The smell of this butter reminds me of the scents you experience when you exit an airplane just after landing in a foreign and tropical country (Dominican Republic maybe?). It's funky for sure, but it's a familiar scent to me.
I bought it for the anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties to try and help with my daughter's psoriasis. I melt it and rub it into her skin and it absorbs really well. It is the best butter I've tried thus far!

Rating: Funky and fun! I love this butter. I use it to make an exotic body butter with turmeric honey powder and other goodies!!! I can't believe I've created something so wonderful. Left over goes into a fab buttermilk hemp soap! This is on my life long purchase list. Please keep this one coming. Thanks NDA.

Rating: Yup the smell is interesting for sure, but I think if it is mixed with sandalwood or cinnamon it would work well. I have been using it as a facial moisturizer for my acne prone skin and I am loving it!! It"s smooth and not greasy. Great product mixed and straight out of the tub.

Rating: I bought this butter and I have to say I'm in love with it. I know that some people have commented in the smell but I find it totally enticing. I used it in my sls free soap with patchouli, frankincense and carrot seed and now my whole family wants a bar. I also used it in a beatiful butter bar and I just can't stop slathering it all over mysel.
I am so happy with this purchase will be buying more soon.

Rating: Excellent natural eczema treatment straight out of the jar! I have been using steroids for years to treat my contact dermatitis (caused by nasty allergies), this is the first natural product i have found that has kept my eczema at bay. I smother it all over myself, especially my face! I love that it does not leave an oily layer on my skin. The smell reminds me of a bitter peanut butter, but does dissipate. This is one of my favourite products from NDA. Please do not stop carrying it :)
Rating: This is one of the best butters. I love the texture, the smell (if you smell it from distance it smells like flower to me). Ucuuba blends well with other butters and oils. It's benefits for the skin are amazing. Love it!
Rating: This is my first purchase of Ucuuba butter and I can't believe how incredibly strong and pungent the smell is! If I had known just how overpowering it is ( I mixed it with mango and olive butter) I wouldn't have bought it. The properties of the butter itself are fine but I would not get this again due to the scent. I use it for eczema and chose it for the anti-inflammatory properties.
The olive and mango butters are fantastic.
Rating: Great for my eczema stricken hands. And moisturizing without greasiness. Awesome! The smell is funky on its own but that's the nature of this butter. Strategically combine with other botanicals and the smell can be nice.

Rating: Extreme moisturizing product when added to creams and butters. For soaps, the brown residue makes no difference, in the lotions best to heat and strain it out before mixing with other ingredients. Definitely makes for a darker finished product but not undesirable.

Rating: This butter is amazing! I use it in exotic dark soaps. First time the scent seems to be strong, but it blends well with cocoa absolute, labdanum, vanilla and vetiver. I don't mind particulate matter in my dark soaps, because I am adding ground vanilla beans for a light exfoliating effect anyway.
Rating: I'm new to making lotions and soaps and tried the Ucuuba Butter in my first lotion. FANTASTIC! Combined with almond and extra virgin coconut oil, this butter is incredible. The initial smell is strong, but mixed with other nut oils, it combines to make an exotic scent and colour.
Rating: I use this butter since a while. Therefore, for soapmaking, it is better to melt it and sieve. There are little black bits into it (maybe little pieces of shell from the nut), so it is better to "clean" the butter.
Again, I hope that this butter will be available for a long time.
My soaps containing ucuuba butter are among my best sellers. Very rich and moisturing.

Rating: Sorry. I am not impressed with this product. Firstly, maybe you could describe it better so we know what to expect when we open it the first time. I was taken aback when I opened the jar. It was clumpy and dry and didn't melt well in my hand. I had to re-read the profile on this site to verify but it said nothing except that it is nearly black in color. I don't mind that. It also says nothing about the density. When I melted it the jar seemed almost empty. Others may love this stuff but I don't and neither does my family. Still, I am pleased with the other items I have purchased. I will buy some more items.
Thanks for letting me try the ucuba.
Rating: Ucuuba butter is an amazing precious exotic butter. It is a wonderful product to be used "as is" on skin or in soaps. Its earthy smell mixes well with Fir Tree, Pine, Patchouli, Cedarwood, Cedar leaf, Vetiver. Try your own mixes ! You can use it in your shampoos, hair masks and sugar scrubs. It leaves your skin hydrated and not sticky, feeling fresh and odorant.
If you are a candlemaker, ucuuba butter can be used instead of chemical paraffin. Is it not a good deal ?
Just try a sample and you will want to order more. Ucuuba butter is a very interesting and reliable product. I used it in my soaps and I will order some more. Thank you to New Directions to provide us such special butters and other precious materia prima !
