Kokum Butter comes from the seeds of the Garcinia indicia tree indigenous to India. Often underrated, Kokum Butter is a firm, cream-coloured and stable vegetable butter, which exhibits a typical oily scent. It offers excellent emollient properties which promotes a healthy looking skin. It is quickly absorbed into the skin without leaving a greasy feel and is often used as a substitute for Cocoa Butter due to its uniform triglyceride composition.
Common Uses: With its relatively high melt point, Kokum Butter liquefies slowly at skin temperature making it ideal for use in lipsticks and lip balms. It is also used in bar soaps, body butters, creams and conditioners.
When adding a butter to creams and lotions, it might be necessary to gently warm it until melted or very soft in texture, and can be incorporated into the final product. Using a hand blender, create a vortex with your cream or lotion and drizzle in your melted butter until fully incorporated and consistently smooth. For addition in soaps, the general rule of thumb is one tablespoon per pound (15 ml/500 g). As with most raw materials, results may vary, so we strongly recommend small, lab-scale batches prior to any commercial manufacturing.
Shelf Life:Store in cool temperatures (below 25 °C) away from light and moisture in an air-tight container. The product will become liquid above ambient temperatures (e.g., 36 °C), but will re-solidify upon cooling without affecting functionality. This butter has a shelf-life of one year when stored properly.

Rating: I placed my first order with NDA in May. Delivery is fast. All items were clean and tidy and well packed. Extremely happy with the purchase. Just have a problem getting the kokum butter out from the bottle as it is so hard and condensed.
Rating: This butter has got to be one the best kept secrets. It's absolutely incredible in moisturizing lotions, body butters, balms etc. The benefits are very noticeable in my handmade products. I haven't had any problems with the smell in my products, and only has mild scent straight from the jar. Great price for the quality and properties of this butter.

Rating: Great for wax-free balms!! I don't notice any scent unless I stick my face right in the jar. The tiniest bit added to formulations offers huge moisturising benefits. Super awesome for chapped lips and in deodorant recipes. I also really like how the butter was melte the poured to fill the container to the very top.

Rating: I now use this butter whenever I make our face lotion. I started this past winter when my skin was very flaky. As soon as I added kokum butter to the recipe, the flakiness went away.
Sure, it looks fuzzy and smells a little funky but it is lovely!
Rating: Although I have just become a client of NDA, I have used Kokum butter extensively. My associate generously gave me a portion of her supply from NDA as I ran out and was in a pinch.
I felt it necessary to reinforce the positive reviews on this product. If your goal is simply to make a product that smells great, you may want to use a smaller amount. Unfortunately this may also lower the therapeutic value of your product.
All my life I've worked in medical aesthetics, and am accustomed to working with pharmaceutical ingredients as well as organic-naturals. Given my background in chemistry and product formulation, I believe I can offer more than just my opinion. Kokum butter has amazing healing and skin regenerating properties. A key component in the ointment I make for my burn victim patients. It speed their recovery and minimize long term damage. It doesn't stop there... There are many ailments that consist of scar tissues in which Kokum butter can be used. Stretch marks, post surgical scarring, acne pits, even wrinkles are categorized as 'tissue damage'.
So before you shy away from natures best kept secret, give it a try. If it smells to strong, adjust your formulation until you get the perfect balance of cosmetic and therapeutic qualities. That's the fun of this industry no?
Highly recommend it!

Rating: I would recommend this butter. It absorbes really easy and doesn't clog pores. I don't care about the smell, I care about the benefits I get from the butter. Mind the recommended usage in any product that you make and it won't "stink".
Rating: The smell is so minimal and it's properties well outweigh any scent. I find it an earthy scent and I like it a lot for my natural and organic line. I added it to a butter bar soap and it worked amazing! I am getting more soon, as I am almost out! ;)

Rating: If you can get passed the smell, (earthy? yes, it sort of smells like dirt), it may have benefits. You may have to use a whole bottle of fragrance to cover up the smell. However I will try it in some soap and then write another review. My rating? The jury is still out on that.

Rating: GREAT!!....I have heard so much about this product. I looks weird and smells a bit funky but that's the way it is. I really like it and have used it in my products.
Rating: Absolutely disgusting! This was the worst smelling butter I've ever experienced. It looks like its covered in mold (mine was fuzzy) and was awful looking even after I melted some (NDA told me this was all normal). It immediately went in to my garbage when NDA told me there was nothing wrong with it and this is, in fact, the wonderful butter I hear so much about. Yuk!
