Botanical Name: Citrus aurantium L. var amara

Main Constituents:
Linalyl acetate: 45.92%

Plant Part: Leaves and Twigs

Origin: Italy

Processing Method: Steam Distilled

Description / Color / Consistency: A thin, colorless to pale yellow liquid.

Aromatic Summary / Note / Strength of Aroma: A top note with a strong aroma, Petitgrain smells like orange blossoms, but less floral, more herbaceous, and with a bitter undertone.

Blends With: Bergamot, Cedarwood, Clary Sage, Geranium, Lavender, Lime, Jasmine, Neroli, Orange, Palmarosa, Rosemary, Sandalwood and Ylang-ylang .

Product Abstract: Native to Southeast Asia, the bitter orange tree that provides Petitgrain, Bitter Orange and Neroli now grows throughout the Mediterranean and sub-tropic areas worldwide. Originally the oil was produced from the unripe oranges when they were the size of cherries; in fact its name comes from petit grain, which in French means 'little grain'. This proved uneconomical, and thus began its extraction from the leaves and twigs of the tree instead. It is used extensively in perfumery and cosmetic preparations.

Cautions: Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.

Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

I changed my mind -- I like the Italian petitgrain better than the 'natural blend'. It is somehow richer and more peppery. But I would say it is almost twice as good, not five+ times more appealing (relative to price). I will use both in my creation of inhalers for men.

A little goes a long way! I bought too much, and am constantly trying to figure out what to do with it because it has such a strong fragrance. I find the scent lasts longer that others, so keep that in mind with blends.

I haven't opened this oil yet. It is required for a course I am taking but because I have a violent allergy to citrus fruit I'm hesitant to try it! I have no doubts it will live up to the outstanding quality of all the other oils and products I have purchased from NDA!

I love this essential oil. True that it goes on the neroli side. It is strong but not overwhelming and blends so well with lemon, orange, lavender and so. I buy it by pound since it is such a great value. It makes marvels in soap and does not make a soap on a stick, will not rice. A pure little wonder in a bottle.

The scent is perfectly described above. It smells interesting but not bad and will blend well with other EO's. I can't wait to try it!

Nice aroma. The top note is very Neroli like but I am still not sure if it's as good as therapeutically.

Fresh and herb-like...I'm not sure I like it alone but I think it would be great with the citrus oils.

Very good scent. If you can't afford neroli, this is your best friend. I just love the orange blossom note even if this petitgrain a little herbal at the beginning.

Nice smell, but I don't know why everybody says it reminds them of neroli... not even close! Good value though

For a beautiful scent combine this Petitgrain with the other essential oils in the Orange family - Neroli, Bergamot and Orange. The blend is a natural and uplifting scent for the diffuser or anything else you would like. This Petitgrain does have a beautiful scent all on its own as well.

One of my new favourite oils! I like the scent because it is not overly "sweet" and blends well with an earthy/woody toned oil. Fresh, clean scent when used in a burner.

This oil is also one of my favorites.... if you don't have the money for neroli.....buy petitgrain. Ok, it's not the same vibrationally or any other way, but it comes from the leaves of the same tree, and the scent is very close yet a little more 'green'. I absolutely love this oil with a nice balsamic or woody scent like sandalwood. Truly a beautiful treasure.
