We carry several varieties of Bergamot Oils including Certified Organic Bergamot Oil, Bergamot sourced directly from the producers in Calabria, also known as Italian Bergamot, and Bergaptene Free Bergamot suitable for Skin Care and Personal Care products.
Bergamot is well known for its uplifting citrus scent and for its properties that improve the tone and texture of the skin. It is also considered as a warming oil, which revitalizes the skin, and makes the complexion look radiant. It can also be diffused in the room to brighten-up the mood. The properties of Bergamot Oil can be attributed to its composition of main constituents. Linalool and Linalyl acetate are sweet-smelling and cooling constituents which are soothing and provides a sense of calm. Meanwhile, limonene is a powerful Antioxidant with a bright citrus scent which energizes your senses.
How to Choose Your Bergamot Oil
It is important to note that bergamot naturally contains a component called “Bergaptene” making this oil phototoxic. This means exposure to the sun and tanning beds should be avoided because bergaptene makes skin susceptible to burning and photo damage and can be potentially photocarcinogenic. Bergamot poses no risk for phototoxicity when skin is not exposed to sunlight or UV rays, and is highly beneficial for skin.
Important Note: Please refer to IFRA safety guidelines. This oil must be highly diluted before use.
Bergaptene-Free: Bergaptene-Free Bergamot is considered as “generally safe for use” in day-time skincare preparations since bergaptene levels have been highly reduced to levels that are virtually undetectable. It is however recommended that customers reference safety manuals and have the product analyzed and verified for suitability in day-time skincare formulations. Patch testing is also highly recommended.
Natural Blends: For a more affordable and natural way to experience the scent of bergamot we offer Bergamot Natural Blends. These blends consist of natural constituents extracted from other essential oils with similar scent characteristics which are then blended to re-create the scent of bergamot. The natural blend may or may not contain oil of bergamot. Natural Blends are all natural, and do not contain any synthetics or aromatic compounds. They are not therapeutic grade but are suitable to scent natural products.
Note: Bergamot Oils must be kept in a dark bottle away from sunlight, as sunlight degrades the oil, making it toxic.
