Description: Borage Carrier Oil is well known as one of the richest sources of essential fatty acids known to man. It is the richest source of gamma linolenic acid (GLA) - up to 25%. It is also a fantastic source for vitamins, and minerals. This oil can be used neat, though because of the price and oily residue, many will prefer to use this oil in dilution with other carrier oils.

1. Where does Borage Carrier Oil Come from?
Borago officianlis is native to the Eastern Mediterranean region, although it is now cultivated in many parts of Europe, Asia, and North America. Due to its rich fatty acid content, Borage is grown as a vegetable and is considered to be part of a healthy diet in numerous cuisines. Our Borage Carrier Oil is cold pressed from the Borago officinalis grown in China.
2. Does Borage Oil contain Omega 3 and Omega 6?
Two of Borage Oil's main constituents include Gamma Linolenic Acid and Linoleic Acid. As an Omega-6 Fatty Acid, Gamma Linolenic Acid is believed to balance of oil in the skin and hair, as well as support overall suppleness and elasticity.
Linoleic Acid is an Omega-3 fatty acid that contributes to the emolliating properties in Borage Oil. It is also believed to promote moisture retention in the skin and the hair.
3. How long does Borage Oil last?
When stored in its original packaging in a cool, dark place, the shelf life of unopened Borage Oil is up to two years. Once it is opened, blanket the oil under nitrogen and retest the oil every two months.
4. Does Borage Oil need to be diluted?
Studies have shown that Borage Oil is highly effective when applied topically, specifically for treating redness, inflammation, and moisture loss in dry skin. However, due to its natural oily residue, many users and formulators opt to dilute Borage Oil with other carrier oils prior to topical application. A ratio of 12 drops of Borage Oil to every ounce of another carrier oil (such as Almond, Jojoba, or Olive) is recommended.

Aromatic Description: Borage (Refined) Carrier Oil has been bleached and deodorized and has been through filters to eliminate impurities.
Common Uses: Small amounts (10% or less) of Borage is often added to other carrier oils as an enhancing or supporting oil for skin care. It is applicable to all skin types and is commonly used in manufacturing of skin care products, and by massage therapists.

Absorption: Leaves an oily feeling on the skin.
Shelf Life: Users can expect a shelf life of up to 2 years with proper storage conditions (cool, out of direct sunlight). Refrigeration after opening is recommended. Please refer to the Certificate of Analysis for current Best Before Date.
Cautions: Borage Carrier Oil is not recommended for use during pregnancy.
Storage: It is recommended that cold-pressed carrier oils be kept in a cool, dark place to maintain freshness and achieve maximum shelf life. If refrigerated, bring to room temperature before using.
