June 2025

The June 2025 Market Report highlights the most prominent essential oils and carrier oils on the market. All our featured products have been affected by fluctuating weather conditions, regional climate patterns, and shifting farmer priorities. Ginger Root Essential Oil (Fresh) from Indonesia shows healthy crop growth due to extended rainfall, but a reduced yield and farmers shifting to other crops may result in limited availability. Mandarin Essential Oil is facing a challenging season, with heat, drought, and frost contributing to a notable drop in yield, potentially leading to shortages. The organic variety of Nutmeg Essential Oil has seen the steepest decline in production, down by 40% from last year due to a natural correction following an unusually high yield in the previous season. Meanwhile, conventional Nutmeg Essential Oil from India is maintaining a consistent yield, but elevated buying activity could deplete carry-over supplies during the off-season. Regarding our carrier oils, Evening Primrose and Borage Oils are currently stable, although weather unpredictability could play a role later in the year.

Fresh Ginger Root Essential Oil is steam distilled from the rhizome of the Zingiber officinale plant and is harvested annually from September to March. Mountainous, fertile, and soft soils are ideal for supporting healthy crop development, along with cool temperatures and ample sunlight. This year's extended rainy season provided favorable growing conditions, however, despite strong growth, yield has dropped by 11–15% compared to last year due to shifting agricultural priorities. Many farmers are opting to plant alternative crops that offer higher returns. While no immediate shortage is expected, limited supply could emerge as availability tightens. Market demand remains steady, but with this year's smaller crop, bulk buyers are encouraged to begin price inquiries around October for optimal planning.

Cold pressed from the peels of the Citrus reticulata fruit grown in Sicily, Italy, Mandarin is harvested multiple times between October and March. This year, challenging weather conditions, including drought, high temperatures, and early frost, has resulted in a 12% decline in yield compared to last season. The crop thrives in warm, sunny climates with mild winters and well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral sandy loam soils. The growing conditions in the Sicily regions were not suitable for growing Citrus reticulata this year. If there's no carryover from previous months, a product shortage is possible in the upcoming quarter. Market demand for Mandarin Essential Oil remains steady, though supply concerns may cause price fluctuations closer to the next harvest window. Bulk buyers should consider making initial inquiries by August or September to navigate potential availability constraints.

Nutmeg Organic Essential Oil is steam distilled from the seeds of the Myristica fragrans native to Sri Lanka. This year’s harvest of organic Myristica fragrans seeds was significantly affected this year. Though the crop prefers hot, humid tropical climates and deep, loamy soils rich in organic matter, this season experienced a natural correction following last year’s high yield. As a result, the 2025 output is approximately 40% lower. The Myristica fragrans’ growth cycle is a normal variation in agriculture, but the reduced supply may influence pricing trends and market behavior in the months ahead. Although no immediate shortages are anticipated, buyers should monitor closely, especially heading into 2026 when yields are expected to normalize. Bulk pricing discussions typically begin in April.

Nutmeg Essential Oil of India is steam distilled from the Myristica fragrans seeds that experience numerous harvests between March and July. This year’s crop has been consistent, with no significant changes in yield compared to last year. Favorable weather conditions, including a warm, humid climate and annual rainfall above 150 cm, supported strong growth across clay loam, sandy loam, and red laterite soils. While supply for Nutmeg Essential Oil is currently stable, the demand is high when it is in season, which may result in reduced carry-over stocks during the off-season. As a result, strategic buying is advised, particularly in April and May, to ensure adequate coverage through the rest of the year.

Historically hailed as “the Emollient of the Royals”, Evening Primrose Carrier Oil is cold pressed from the seeds of the Oenothera biennis flower, yielding a luxurious oil rich in Omega 6 and Omega 9 fatty acids. Typically harvested around October, the Oenothera biennis is in the early sowing stage as of June. The plant thrives in partly cloudy weather and adapts well to a range of soils, whether neutral, slightly alkaline, or acidic. Although still early, no major shortages are expected in the coming quarter. The yield is projected to be comparable to last year’s levels, pending stable climate conditions. Market pricing and availability for Evening Primrose Oil should remain consistent in the short term, with bulk order discussions best initiated between November and December.

Known for its rich gamma linolenic acid content (up to 25%), Borage Carrier Oil is cold pressed from the Borago officinalis seeds and is refined, bleached, deodorized, and winterized for cosmetic purposes. Harvested once a year between late September and early October, the seeds are planted in early April. It is too early to assess potential impacts from climate, though the plant’s resilience to drought and cold, as well as its preference for deep, sandy loam soils, gives some assurance of a stable yield. Current conditions suggest a crop size similar to last year’s, and market prices remain steady. Adaptable to most seasonal shifts, this crop prefers cool to mild temperatures and can thrive between 5°C to 30°C. There are no expected shortages in the coming quarter, and buyers should look to secure pricing between August and September before the harvest.
