Polawax is a preparation of higher fatty alcohols that produce thick emulsions without the addition of stiffening waxes. Recommended usage level is 2% - 10%.
INCI: Emulsifying Wax NF
Appearance: Creamy white solid beads with little to no odor.
Uses: Polawax is an effective emulsifier suited for the preparation of cosmetic oil / water emulsions. It can also be used to increase the thickness of formulations, eliminating the need for use of additional ingredients. It works well as a sole emulsifier, thickener and stabilizer in an emulsion. Examples include creams, lotions, body butters, conditioners, face cleansers and baby products.
Compatibility: Polawax is compatible with anionic, cationic and non-ionic systems. The emulsions show excellent stability in both acid and base media. Emulsions are stable with a pH as low as 3 or as high as 13. It does not deteriorate on heating, experiencing only a slight alteration in color at temperatures up to 150-152°C for two hours.

When I only started with my creams and lotions the textures have been unstable and often split on water and oil. Not with polawax - it is ideal for newbies and continues working great with more experience. The only issue that it can be a bit 'heavy' for face. I try not to exceed 2-3%, adding xantan and guar as additional emulsifier. For body it is perfect alone as well as with bees' wax for colder seasons.

Polawax is easier to use and a better emulsifier than beeswax. I initially used beeswax for my first batch of body lotion and it took a long time for the oil/water mixture to emulsify and even after about 7-8 minutes of blending it was only 80% emulsified. Also, the body lotion had a greasy feel. After switching to Polawax, my recipe emulsified within 15 seconds and there was no greasy feel to the lotion! Great stuff, great price!

It's great to have this detergent (SLS, SLES) and toxin-free emulsifying wax. The only one I use for all creams and lotions. Needs 1/4 more than lanette wax, however.

I really like polawax, it makes a great emulsion, however, I find at 5% with 5% stearic, I sometimes get some separation with my water, but blend in a few pinches of guar gum and problem fixed.
