Description: Lavender French is an evergreen woody shrub, up to 1 meter tall, with pale green, narrow linear leaves and violet blue flowers.

Color: Pale yellow to yellow liquid.

Common Uses: Properties of Lavender French Essential Oil include analgesic, anti-convulsive, anti-depressant, anti-phlogistic, antirheumatic, antseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, bactericide, carminative, cholagogue, cicatrisant, cordial, cytophylactic, decongestant, deodorant, and as a diuretic. Herbalist regards Lavender as the most useful and versatile essential oil for therapeutic purposes. Lavender is the essential oil most commonly associated with burns and healing of the skin. It also has antiseptic and analgesic properties which will ease the pain of a burn and prevent infection. It also has cytophylactic properties that promote rapid healing and help reduce scarring. The scent of Lavender is said to have a calming effect on the body and it can be used to reduce anxiety, stress and promote sleep. Lavender French is a popular choice amongst both aromatherapists and massage therapists for its combination of therapeutic quality and pleasant floral scent.

Aromatic Scent: Lavender French Essential Oil has a sweet floral note preferred by many.

History: Lavender is adapted to living in a dry climate and is native to the western half of the Mediterranean, reaching altitudes of up to 1800 meters. It is believed that the Romans and the Benedictine monks subsequently introduced it to rest of Europe.

Cautions: Lavender French Essential Oil is non-toxic, non-irritating and non-sensitizing.

This lavender is great, however it's a little too earthy for what we were looking for in a lavender EO. If you are looking for a floral/fruity loavender, this is not the one for you. This lavender blends great with other herbs, but overpowers other floral scents.

I have only good things to say about this Lavender French, I put a couple of drops around the house air circulation and it smells lovely, I feel relax and the kids are quiet (bonus)!!! I am so glad I got the 100 ml, thanks NDA for this great oil!! It smells sweet and just the perfect amount of the background smell (not too bitter). I love it. I will use it in my perfumes and oils.

The scent is very potent - I normally just place a couple of drops on to a tissue and place into my pillow, gives a very relaxing sleep. Looking forward to trying out some of the other lavenders and see how they'd compare!

Lavender French is my favourite lavender from New Directions! Normally Lavender smells a bit like B.O. to me (I don't know why lol) but this Lavender smells absolutely beautiful. It's a gentle, floral, calming scent that I love and useful for all kinds of ailments. I was on vacation in the south of France this summer and one day got a massive headache (and I'm someone who normally doesn't get headaches) due to being in the sun all day. Before going to bed, I mixed Lavender French with Peppermint Organic on my temples, forehead, and scalp - the combination of both scents immediately knocked me off into sleep and I woke up completely refreshed with no pain whatsoever.

a gorgeous, true lavender: not too sweet, not too "dusty." very clean, uplifting scent, works wonders dabbed neat onto acne, mosquito bites, stings, etc. also smells marvelous added to your final laundry rinse -- a few drops each of lavender and orange EO. : )

I have to disagree with the last review but I guess that is why there is so many different kinds for sale. I love this lavender and I use it in my store daily (diffused in a scent ball) and my customers love it. Mixed with lemongrass and customers constantly ask what the wonderful smell is. Sells itself.

I love the smell of the French Lavender and have used it in both CP soap and salves. i find it gives the salves a nice soft sweet lavender scent. But with the soaps, they smell wonderful to begin with but after about 4 months the smell starts to fade. I will definitely buy it again for my salves but not for CP soap. I also tried Barreme Lavender in my CP soap and I think it lasts longer. Next I am going to try 40/42 for the soap. But will definitely stick with French for my salves.

This the only oil I have ever been disappointed with from ND. Lavender is by far my favourite essential oil, however I have always used Organic French Lavender but as ND does not carry an organic oil from France I tried this one and I can not get over the pungency and the thick, almost sickly-sweet smell. I am going to try the Organic Bulgarian Lavender next, but my advice would be to get the small sample sizes first until you find the Lavender that you know and love.

I ordered the 100ml. bottle, thinking it would last me forever. However, I find myself using it for everything, from laundry to skin irritations to linen sprays and sleep remedies, and I often re-bottle it into smaller dropper bottles and give it to other people to enjoy. That huge bottle won't stretch as far as I thought it would! French lavender is indispensable, and one of the key basics that everyone should have. I wish I could rate it 10 stars.

I really like this lavender. I wasn't sure which one to pick at first, because my previous bottle of lavender did not say what kind it was. However, I was pleased to find that this one is almost identical to my previous lavender and that's exactly the scent I wanted! It is a VERY nice scent and my favorite lavender.

AN ADDITION TO MY LAST POST: If you don't know already, most lavender EO's do not smell like the source exactly. However, Bulgarian lavender is said to be the closest, especially if it is an absolute (where alcohol is used in the extraction method). Bulgarian lavender is sweeter, and more 'floral.' I just don't want to mislead anybody. =] But again, 5 stars.

From a perfumery perspective, lavender french adds a calm scent to any smells. Its versatility makes it a must have, and it's sooooooo relaxing. Love at first smell. =]
