b-Himalachene: 46%
Botanical Name: Cedrus atlantica
Plant Part: Wood
Extraction Method: Steam Distilled
Origin: Morocco
Description: Cedarwood is a pyramid-shaped majestic evergreen tree, which grows up to 131 ft. high. The wood itself is hard and strongly aromatic because of the high percentage of essential oil it contains, and the essential oil is obtained by steam distillation.
Color: Golden yellow to orange-brown liquid.
Consistency: Thin
Aromatic Scent: Cedarwood Atlas Oil has a woody, sweet, sharper note than Virginian Cedarwood, slight aroma reminiscent of artificial mothballs, balsamic.
Note: Middle
Strength of Aroma: Strong
Blends well with: Rosewood, Bergamot, Cypress, Cassia, Jasmine, Juniper, Neroli, Labdanum, Frankincense, Clary Sage, Vetiver, Rosemary, Ylang-ylang.
Common Uses: Cedarwood Atlas Oil is used by aromatherapists to assist with acne, arthritis, bronchitis, coughing, cystitis, dandruff, dermatitis, and stress. It is currently used in commercial soaps, cosmetics and perfumes, especially men's colognes.
History: Originating in the Atlas Mountains in North Africa, in former times, linen chests were frequently crafted from Cedar to keep moths out. The ancient Egyptians prized this oil, mostly for embalming purposes, but also for cosmetics and perfumery, and Solomon's Temple was built with Cedar Wood. Today, closet liners and accessories are frequently crafted from Cedar Wood.
Cautions: Non-toxic, non-irritant. Avoid during pregnancy.

I really cannot like this scent. It smells too much like artificial mothball. A bit too much for me. It's strong and sharp, almost bitter and unpleasant. For some reason I was expecting a sweet woody scent in this one. Next time I'm going to try Himalayan or Virginian cedar wood.

I find this scent very unpleasant but that's just me. It does smell a lot like mothball. For some reason it smells very artificial, but that could be because it smells like mothballs. Definitely not a wood scent that I was looking for. Like an NDA rep said, I will try Virginian or Himalayan. Meanwhile, I will try to mix this with other essential oils to cover the scent.

(I did not actually purchase this oil, so I rated it the same as the average score so as to not throw off the current rating) This is in response to Chaina from Toronto: I used to be a student in Forestry Department at the University of British Columbia. When people are referring to the traditional cedar smell it is pertaining to Western Redcedar or Yellow Cedar or Eastern White Cedar etc. However, all of these are false cedars and no one really knows how they came to be known as cedars. These trees come from the family Cuprressaceae. Atlas Cedar, however, is a true cedar and comes from the family Pinaceae. It can be kind of confusing since they have the same sort of common name even thought they are not related. As such, it will have a different smell than you expect because they come from two different families...unless you already knew this fact.

Actually, according to me, it doesn't smell like cedar at all, it's something sweet and very mild. Not the one I was looking for as it's definitely not the classic cedar scent.
New Directions Aromatics Response:
To get the more traditional woody scent of Cedarwood try the Texas or Virginian Cedarwood with the chemical constituents of Cedrene or Cedrol.

I love the smell! It's not as strong in products as I expected, but the price is good, so using a little more doesn't hurt. Lovely!

I love the scent of this cedarwood and it holds it's scent well in blends for cold process soap. Men like the scent in their aftershave creams etc.

I love this cedarwood, great price, high quality oil! It is a possible ABORTIFACIENT. Do not use if pregnant. Similar to Himalayan Deodar Cedarwood. Use for absent mindedness, acne, anxiety, arthritis, bronchitis, catarrh, cellulite, confidence building, cystitis, dandruff, dermatitis, eczema, fungal infections, greasy skin, hair loss, rheumatism, skin eruptions, stress, ulcers. Also known as African Cedar, Atlantic Cedar, Atlas Cedar, Libanol Oil, Moroccan Cedarwood Oil. I use this oil in many of my blends. An asset to any aromatherapist.
