Botanical Name: Lavandula angustifolia

Main Constituents:
Linalool: 31.3%
Linalyl acetate: 31.63%
Camphor: 6.1%

Plant Part: Flowers

Origin: South Africa

Processing Method: Steam Distillation

Description / Color / Consistency: A thin, clear, colourless to pale yellow liquid.

Aromatic Summary / Note / Strength of Aroma: A top note of strong aroma, this Lavender has a floral scent that is sharper and more camphoraceous than Lavender French, and smells more like Lavender Spanish.

Blends With: Bay, Bergamot, Chamomile, Citronella, Clary Sage, Geranium, Jasmine, Lemon, Mandarin, Orange, Palmarosa, Patchouli, Pine, Thyme, Rosemary, Rosewood and Ylang-ylang.

Product Abstract: The Lavender plant is a woody evergreen shrub, up to 1 meter tall, with pale green, narrow linear leaves and violet blue flowers. The entire plant is covered with oil glands, which are in the star shaped hairs that cover the plant. Lavender has been used since ancient times, and the Romans added lavender to their bath water, hence the name from the Latin lavare, 'to wash'. Differences in soil, altitude and temperature, precipitation and seasons contribute to subtle changes in the scent from one lot of Lavender to another.

Cautions: Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.

Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping), be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

This essential oil is unique as it has an earthy quality but very much a strong lavender scent. Reasonably priced & worth trying if you want a unique lavender scent.

This one is stronger than the French and Spanish to my nose! :) Works well in CP and lotions. A little goes a long way. :)

I LOVE lavender but this one is not one of my favorites. I much prefer French Lavender to this one. This South African Lavender does NOT mix well with tea tree. HORRID! I will not buy it again. It is economical but it is worth the extra to buy the right scent.

This is one strong-smelling lavender... Therapeutic values are probably equal, but I greatly prefer the Bulgarian, or even French, which are much less camphorous.

Very unique and different. I'm intrigued by all the subtle differences in types of lavender. Less fruity and sweet with almost a metallic edge. Very nice.

This is the first lavender EO I've tried and I'll be sticking with it. I originally purchased it for my balms but now add it to my cleaning products and use it around the house because I love the smell.

I love Lavender EO and make so many of my products with this. CP soap, mix it with tea tree and love the output. Use it in bath salt with lavender buds in it. Customers love this. Make bath melt with shea butter, coco butter, powdered oatmeal and lavender EO. Again a best seller..

I bought this South Africian Lavender for its theraputic properties! Therefore, I was not surprised it didn't smell like other fragrant Lavender like the Moldova one! I have mixed it with other EOs from ND e.g. Roman Chamomile, eucalyptus, etc. for arthritis message oil or with Helichrysum, peppermint etc. for other theraputic use with great results! I am very happy with all the products I have got from ND! I have replaced a lot of my EOs with ND's. Thanks for sourcing all these wonderful products!

This is a great lavender! Great for therapeutic purposes. The scent is more herbaceous than some of the other lavender's, less floral and sweet, I love it!! Price is excellent too!

Having reviewed many Lavender's I find this one is great in terms of pricing and quality. I have used the French and find it quite similar to that one. Will keep buying this product at it's great price.

As a massage therapist, I have tried many different varieties of Lavender, and it's a blessing that this one is so affordable, because I keep buying it in larger and larger quantities. By far my favourite for absolutely anything - massage, diffusing, cleaning, laundry, hand soaps, skin products, cuts & burns, insect bites - everything. I like the subtle camphor "kick" to it. 10 stars.

If you're looking for a perfume type of lavender, this isn't it. This oil has an earthy and medicinal quality of fragrance to it. It is wonderful as a health aid and for relaxation; I use it at bedtime for my daughter who's had difficulty falling asleep, and for my husband who has RLS, and it's been working quite well. I rub a little on the back of their necks and the bottoms of their feet. So far, so good :) Thank you NDA for this wonderful and affordable product.

I'm not big on flower scents as a general rule, but this lavender is lovely! I use it in my massage room, for allergies and headaches and in soaps and lotions. It reminds me more of the smell of lavender growing in an herb garden. Not too sweet or flowery.

I've tried a few NDA lavenders and this one is my fave. I use it daily for massage clients and with the electric diffuser. I keep buying larger and larger quantities each time!! It's not as sweet as the French variety.

Just made a batch of CP soap with this Lavender and it truly is beautiful. I have always used Lavender 40/42 and after reading the reviews I thought I would try something different and I'm glad I did. Thank you for the reviews. I use them sometimes to decide whether or not to try something new.

I'm so happy this lavender came back into stock. It's still my favourite, and this time I ordered 2 - 100 ml bottles. Along with some other lavenders I haven't tried yet. Just for comparison's sake. I don't have lavender "problem". Really. Just because I ordered 4 different kinds this time?? Nah.

I really love this lavender. I ordered 3 different kinds and while all are good or better, this one is by far, my favourite, so far. I will definitely be purchasing a larger bottle next time. I anxiously await it's re-stocking. And will order another lavender I have yet to try. along with this one. As a lavender "junkie" (one who actually day dreams of laying in a field of the stuff) I'll get around to trying all of NDAs lavenders.

This is not a typical lavender (angustifolia, dentate, etc.). It is a completely different phenotype called Lavender Marie (look at the data sheet). The smell is special, radiant and fruity, with not noticeable camphor undertones, it is definitely a luxurious aroma. I checked the data sheet and the GC plot (on top of this webpage) and indeed, the essential oil contains the components that one expects to find in a typical lavender essential oil. This one, however, is a more fragrant variety. It should display the normal healing properties of a lavender (Bulgarian or French lavander e. e.) but since it is high in esters, I would use it for a relaxing bath,in the diffuser or as a mood perfume rather than for burns or joint pain.
