Botanical Name: Cupressus funebris

Main Constituents:
Thujopsene: 14.75%
a-Cedrene: 10.19%
b-Cedrene: 3.72%
Cedrol: 10%

Its constituent cedrol may cause the oil to crystallize. The melting point of cedrol is 86º Celsius, so by gently heating crystalized oil, the cedrol liquefies and its solubility is improved for a period of time. It may re-crystallize again in cooler temperatures.

Plant Part: Wood

Origin: China

Processing Method: Steam Distilled

Description / Color / Consistency: A thin, golden yellow to orange or brown liquid.

Aromatic Summary / Note / Strength of Aroma: A middle note of strong aroma, this oil has a sharp, fresh camphoraceous scent.

Blends With: Rosewood, Bergamot, Cypress, Cassia, Jasmine, Juniper, Neroli, Labdanum, Frankincense, Clary Sage, Vetiver, Rosemary, Ylang-ylang.

Product Abstract: Chinese Cedarwood is an evergreen tree or shrub with a wide distribution in Guizhou, Gansu and Sichuan provinces in China. Aromatic cedar chests have always been used to store woolen articles. This oil generally has a lower cedrol content than the American oil so is used more in its own right for fragrance than as a source of chemical isolates.

Cautions: Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.

Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping), be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

At first, the smoky grey fragrance freaked me out, but now I combine it with cinnamon bark and others to make magickal incenses. It balances out well with the sweet Cedarwood Himalayan. Reminds me of a mild cedarwood Texas.

I would have to agree with the other post that this doesn't smell anything close to fresh or cedar like at all. Instead it smells like old smokey camp fire.

After having purchased Himalayan Cedarwood, I thought I would try the other varieties to see the differences in scent and putting it bluntly this one was absolutely revolting, the only thing it smells like is motor oil. I am very glad I only purchased a sample size because it is absolutely unusable and will go straight to the garbage. This is one of the few times I can New Directions, you got it completely wrong.

I really love the smell of this. Reminds me of the sandalwood provided by new directions, but with a fresh accent. Excellent for a sporty fragrance. Commonly used in perfumery, especially the cedarwood of Chinese origin. A must. Mixes amazingly with sandalwood for a classic base note. For the price, this is a must.
