The following report contains updates on the current trends in production and availability of the most in-demand Essential Oils and Carrier Oils sourced from around the globe.

Lavender Essential Oil (Bulgarian)

Weather conditions in Bulgaria have contributed to a less than ideal Lavender crop this year. Complications included scanty rainfall and a lack of snow during winter, which can be helpful in providing the crop with natural insulation. The harvest ended in July and, as expected, the yield has decreased in 2020.

The demand for Lavender Oil has experienced a spike due to the increased production of hygienic and sanitizing goods in response to COVID-19. Depending on the extent of the impact on oil production, prices may incline in the near future.

Lavandin Grosso Essential Oil

Ample spring rainfall and ideal growing conditions have strengthened the French Lavandin Grosso crop, and the July harvest for 2020 has exceeded expectations. The harvest yield is reported to be 30% higher compared to 2019's output. The market for Lavandin Grosso Oil is reported to be favorable with robust demand.

Lemon Essential Oil

Lemon (Sicily) Essential Oil

The Lemon crop appears to be on track for an average-to-good harvest. The harvest season will begin in November and end in April. A clearer picture on production will emerge in December once the harvest is underway.

Lemon (Argentina) Essential Oil

Argentina's Lemon crop harvest has suffered this year due to ongoing weather issues. The crop size has ended up being 25% smaller than last year. The bad weather conditions, including frost and drought, are expected to continue into 2021, possibly creating a shortage. With firm demand, it is expected that prices will spike in the coming months.

Origanum Organic Essential Oil

The potential of Morocco's Oregano crop has been limited due to low levels of rainfall. Demand levels are currently steady and prices are reported to be firm.

Turmeric Essential Oil

In spite of initial disruptions due to lockdown measures in India, the Turmeric harvest has proceeded on schedule. Lower market prices had been supported initially due to sustained interest from both local and international buyers. However, prices have recently inclined as the lower price points failed to entice farmers into selling their stock. Owing to COVID-19, Turmeric has regained prominence in the eyes of consumers as the spice is believed to have natural immune-boosting properties.

Clary Sage Essential Oil (France)

The Clary Sage harvest in France ended in mid-July. Despite unusual rain conditions, the crop grew splendidly resulting in a fortunate and excellent harvest. Compared to 2019, there has been only a marginal drop in harvest yield (10%). Whether the levels of demand have risen or dropped this year, however, still remains unclear; Clary Sage Oil serves mainly the perfumery industry which has been impacted by the current pandemic. Producers note that total production in France is roughly 50-60 MT and this is expected to align with this year's demand for the most part. Prices remain stable at present.

Baobab Carrier Oil – Unrefined

In Senegal, Baobab fruits are harvested in the wild between the months of December and May. The harvest yield this year has unfortunately been lackluster and supply is tight. Prices are quickly elevating due to surging demand.

Black Cumin Seed Carrier Oil – Virgin & Organic

The production of Black Cumin in Israel has been hampered due to adverse weather conditions. This year's harvest yield is 40% below standard projections. Market prices are reported to be firming for both conventional and organic varieties of Black Cumin Seed Oil.

Grapeseed Organic Carrier Oil

This year's Grape cultivation has been favorable with the harvest yield being comparable to last year's crop. The availability of seeds for oil production remains generally constant throughout the year. There is rising demand for Grapeseed Oil, particularly for the organic variety due to its value in products related to natural wellness and cosmetics. Compared to last year, prices have marginally reduced but are reported to be stable.

Camellia Seed Carrier Oil

In China, vibrant Camellia flowers grow freely on the mountains, where they are nourished by a mild climate, plenty of sunlight, ample rain, and rich soils. The harvesting of seeds takes place in early November and December. The yield this year is projected to be higher than that of last year, and yearly production cycles signify that next year's yield is likely to be comparatively lower. As the popularity and usage of Camellia Seed Oil grows in the cosmetic and hair care sector, the demand for this beautifying oil is rapidly increasing.
