MARKET REPORT MARCH 2018
The following report contains updates on the current trends in production and availability of the most in-demand Essential Oils, Carrier Oils, and Raw Materials sourced from around the globe.
Avocado Oil production is limited in Mexico, as most of the fruit is distributed to foreign or local markets, leaving only 4% of the Avocado yield to be used for oil production. There is increased demand and limited availability, but the prices remain stable. Some changes are to be expected in the second half of the year.
In Morocco, Myrtle is harvested in August and September. Since 2016, the weather conditions and the harvest yields have been normal. The current demand for Myrtle Oil is higher than in previous years, resulting in higher – and firm – prices for the raw material.
In Morocco, Blue Tansy is harvested between the months of June and August. The current growing conditions are normal. The 2017 harvest yield was normal, however there was no carry-over. The market demand is stable, but there are no stocks in the market from the 2017 crop.
In Finland, oatmeal is generally sown in May and the harvest typically occurs between August and September. Due to Finland's northerly location, the growing season is relatively shorter compared to that of other European growing regions, and this often results in a lower yield level (tn/ha) compared to the yield in the rest of Europe. Over the past few years, the harvest yield has remained steady at about 13% of EU production.
2017 and 2018 have experienced a shortage of Organic Oats, but the demand for oats has remained high, especially for advanced Colloidal Oatmeal. Cosmetics formulators continue the trend of incorporating oats as ingredients in their products, and Finnish oats are most desirable for their quality. The market conditions remain favorable and, as cosmetic ingredients, oats continue to see worldwide growth in usage.
In Canada, Meadowfoam is harvested in July. The current growing conditions are favorable and the demand and market conditions are both steady.
In China, Litsea Cubeba is harvested between the end of July and the beginning of September. Last year's harvest yield amounted to a total quantity of 700 mts; however, this year's crop has been reduced by approximately 30%, thus the price is higher and firmer. The market demand is growing increasingly stronger.
In China, Sea Buckthorn is harvested between the months of August and October. This year's yield is projected to be the same as that of the previous year. Due to increasing demand in the China market, the overall demand is increasing and the rising cost of artificial picking will cause an increase in the price.
