Tea Tree Essential Oil (AAA Australian)

Average Product Rating: 4.9 / 5 (Based on 21 Customer Reviews)

Botanical Name: Melaleuca alternifolia

Plant Part: Leaves

Extraction Method: Steam Distilled

Origin: Australia

Description: The Tea Tree is a small tree or shrub with needle-like leaves. It is also domestically referred to as Ti-tree. It can grow up to 7 meters (20 feet) in height and thrives in marshy areas, though it is now cultivated in plantations. The Tea Tree is very robust; it is ready for cutting only two years after its’ previous harvest.

Color: Colorless to pale yellow clear liquid.

Common Uses: Tea Tree Essential Oil is best known as a very powerful immune stimulant. It can help to fight all three categories of infectious organisms (bacteria, fungi, and viruses), and there is evidence that Tea Tree Oil massages prior to an operation may help to fortify the body and reduce post-operative shock. Used in vapor therapy, Tea Tree Oil can help with colds, measles, sinusitis and viral infections. For skin and hair, Tea Tree has been used to combat acne, oily skin, head lice and dandruff. As essential oils have become more accepted by the public, the use of Tea Tree has increased significantly. This can be readily evidenced by the commercial products now using Tea Tree Essential Oil.

Consistency: Thin

Note: Middle

Strength of Aroma: Medium

Blends well with: Cinnamon Bark, Clary Sage, Clove Bud, Geranium, Lavender, Lemon, Myrrh, Nutmeg, Rosewood, Rosemary and Thyme.

Aromatic Scent: Tee Tree Essential Oil has a fresh, antiseptic and medicinal scent. It also has characteristic mint and spice back-notes.

History: The aboriginal people of Australia have long used Tea tree oil; similarly, Tea tree has a long history of use within the field of aromatherapy. In World War Two, the producers and the cutters of Tea Tree were exempt from military service until enough essential oil had been accumulated. The oil was a highly valued product as it was issued to each soldier and sailor as part of their kit in order to treat tropical infections and infected wounds.

Cautions: Tea Tree Essential Oil may cause dermal sensitization in some people. Do not take internally.

This oil is a strong smelling oil, but is not at all nauseating and I am amazed at the benefits of this oil. Apply a single drop to a skin blemish and tadah! No more blemish. Thanks ND for the varieties and information offered on your oils.

this oil is AMAZING...i use it in a blend with lavender, grapefruit, rosemary, and orange essential oil with witch hazel and vodka (yes, vodka) as a toner. it very effectively removes excess residue after cleansing and appears to shink pores after swiping across with a cotton pad. i also steam my face with a couple drops of tea tree and use as a spot treatment with great results... thank you NDA for these great oils at affordable prices!!!

A great EO for a great price. I've used it in facial masks, OCM mixes, and after sun lotion. I've found I really like it with some French lavender and rosemary, for both the scent and the healing benefits.

Excellent quality! I use this for many things - gargle with it for sore throats, put on cuts, pimples, etc. I also mixed 60 drops with 15 ml emulsifier and 4 oz water as a spray for my sister to spray in my young nieces hair to repel lice - as lice goes around the day care she goes to now and again.

Have tried Tea Tree oil in a base cream and it has a very nice effect to it --- it's very soothing, and it actually "whitens" or brightens the complexion somewhat.

The tea tree essential oil is well packaged and of a great quality. It's excellent in soap/cream/lotion making. The only suggestion I would like to make is to add an expiry date to all oil labels.

I have used tea tree oil for a very long time, and the quality of the NDA offering is superb. We use it almost exclusively for wound care, but have also used it for hair care, disinfecting sick rooms, and household cleaning. It's a staple in our first aid kits (the 2ml vials offered under the Bottles & Jars tab are superb for this purpose!)

Besides Lavender, Tea Tree is probably the most useful oil in all of the essential oils. It is a definite MUST HAVE for any aromatherapist. And especially for one just starting out. The properties are many and this oil does not have to be diluted everytime it is used as most E.O.s are. It can be used neat. But still should be diluted as it could cause sensitization in some. It is a most versatile Australian oil and is claimed by some to be a medicine chest in a bottle. It is non-toxic and non-irritant but with possible sensitization in some individuals. Use for abrasions, abscesses, acne, antiseptic, athlete's foot, blisters, burns, cold sores, cuts, head lice, insect bites, laundry antiseptic, nappy rash, scalds, septic wounds, thrush, etc. Also known as Melasol, Narrow-Leaved Paperbark Tea Tree, Ti-Tree, Ti-Trol.
