Botanical Name: Angelica Sinensis

Description: Angelica is a large hairy, biennial plant with ferny leaves and umbels of white flowers. It can grow 5 to 8 feet tall and flowering time is June to August.

Color: Light brownish yellow to brown viscous liquid.

Common Uses: Angelica Root Essential Oil is useful for dull and congested skin, accumulation of toxins in joints, arthritis, gout, water retention, bronchitis, coughs, fatigue, migraine, nervous tension and stress related disorders.

Consistency: Medium

Strength of Aroma: Strong

Blends well with: Cedarwood, Frankincense, Myrrh and Sandalwood.

Aromatic Scent: It is said to have a peppery, rich, herbal, earthy, woody and musk animal odor.

History: This plant is often used to flavor many alcoholic drinks and its candied stem has long been used in confectionery.

Cautions: Angelica essential oil is considered generally non-toxic and non-irritant; however it is known to be photo-toxic. After any application to the skin, avoid direct exposure to strong sunlight for up to 12 hours. Avoided during pregnancy.

Incredible oil, you can really feel the whole spirit of the root has been extracted. It starts very damp with a deep burgundy smell, it's a sweet one. You can almost taste its sugar qualities when moving away, from some distance it smells more dry and sharper. It's calming but also invigorating by its mysterious overtones. Those only get revealed in the end, where an alcoholic and ink like quality that do not linger long in the nose, as it decomposes in an array of flowery bouquet.

A very relaxing oil. Blends well if you use it sparingly. I like it blended with Lavender and orange.
