Description: Commonly known as "dong quai" or "female ginseng" Angelica is a large hairy, biennial plant with ferny leaves and umbels of white flowers. It can grow 5 to 8 feet tall and flowering time is June to August. The CO2 extraction method yields a greater number of aromatic compounds from the root than any other distillation process. In certain conditions at a low temperature Carbon Dioxide or CO2 can be pressurized to become a liquid. This liquid then acts as a solvent and is used to extract the oil from plants. After extraction is completed, the extraction vessel is brought back to normal temperature and the CO2 rapidly converts to gas leaving behind high quality oil that is free of solvents.

Common Uses: Angelica Root Essential Oil is useful for dull and congested skin, accumulation of toxins in joints, water retention, fatigue, migraine, nervous tension and stress related disorders. It can also be used as a remedy for colds, coughs, colic, fevers, and as an expectorant. It is known as a warming agent and can be used in a compress to ease inflammation associated with arthritis and gout.

History: Angelica Root has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine. Dating to 400 BC, Angelica is one of the first recorded Chinese drugs, and it’s still in common use today as a tonic to improve gynecological and general health in women.

Cautions: Angelica Essential Oil is considered generally non-toxic and non-irritant; however it is known to be photo-toxic. After any application to the skin, avoid direct exposure to strong sunlight for up to 12 hours. Avoid during pregnancy.
